Medical Requirements
All Delaware CDL holders must maintain current DOT medical certification under 49 CFR Part 391. Medical examinations must be performed by FMCSA-certified medical examiners listed on the National Registry. The exam produces a Medical Examiner's Certificate (Form MCSA-5876) that is electronically transmitted to Delaware DMV. Medical certificates typically require renewal every 2 years. Failure to maintain valid medical certification results in automatic CDL downgrade or disqualification. Specific medical standards apply for hazmat and passenger endorsements.
