Medical Requirements
Tennessee requires DOT medical certification for most CDL holders. Drivers operating in Non-Excepted Interstate or Non-Excepted Intrastate commerce must obtain and maintain a valid medical examiner's certificate from a National Registry certified medical examiner. Certificates are typically valid for up to 24 months but may be issued for shorter periods based on medical conditions. The medical certificate must be submitted to the Tennessee Driver Services Division and kept current to avoid CDL downgrade. Drivers must complete self-certification indicating their type of driving operation.
